The Self-Editing Starter Pack

Let’s get you started on the right foot.

My budget-friendly self-editing starter pack gives you everything you need to start self-editing effectively. For a fixed price of £75, you will receive the following:

  • A detailed annotation of a 2-6 thousand word chapter of your choice.

  • A mini-editorial report identifying strengths and weaknesses in your prose. This will also include tailored craft book recommendations to facilitate further development.

  • A personalised roadmap with a step by step guide to the editing process.

  • A style sheet template.

Additionally, the cost of the starter pack will be deducted from the price of a full edit should you wish to hire me to work on the rest of the book! Self-editing is a vital skill for writers, but the process can feel overwhelming. My starter pack offers a crucial leg up by guiding you through the editing process and directing your focus to where it is most needed. Learning to identify and eliminate your own mistakes is a vital step on the journey to becoming a better writer.

“I am incredibly grateful to have met Margaret. While her red pen is thorough, she made my first editing experience far less painful than expected. I am so thankful for her amazing guidance, feedback, support, and friendship—and for making my words better.”

- Elsie Kay

Coaching

I’m here to help.

Do you find that the same issues continually creep up in your writing, but you aren’t sure what to do about it? Are you frustrated by feedback that you don’t quite understand? Has your writing plateaued?

Many writers find it hard to improve in a vacuum. I provide one-on-one workshops that aim to nail down issues in your prose - and provide guidance on how to fix them.

“There’s no substitute for having another set of eyes on your work. My submission was turned around quickly and the edits I received were clear and thoughtful. Will definitely use again!.”

- Josh Groetsema

Developmental Editing

The big picture.

I evaluate the strengths and weaknesses of your manuscript as a whole. A developmental edit focuses on issues such as plot, character development, structure, and style. Following a developmental edit, I deliver the client a personalised editorial report, offering tailored guidance that will turn a rough draft into a highly cohesive story.

“Working with Margaret has been an incredible experience. As an editor, she's extremely thorough while remaining dedicated to preserving the tone and narrative voce of the text. She gave solid, unambiguous feedback and responded to any questions or comments I had promptly. I have placed one typo in this testimonial to drive her blood pressure up.”

- Abi Vasquez, Underdark

Line Editing

Crafting prose that flows.

I go through your manuscript line by line, optimising sentence structure and word choice to create tight and frictionless prose. Every writer wants to provide their audience with a smooth and pleasant reading experience. My aim is to create a big impact with small tweaks and make your writing jump off the page.

Copyediting

I’m a pedant so you don’t have to be.

Everyone has that word they just can’t spell or that one grammatical mistake that keeps creeping in. Nobody is perfect. Even the most meticulous person makes mistakes. As your copy editor, I will fix your spelling, grammar and formatting so you can focus on what matters.
